Over time, there have been many countries that have contributed with the development of ballet in the world. One of the main countries that has greatly contributed with renowned dancers, musician and composers is Russia, where a large number of art workswere written. One of the main ballet masterpieces is definitely the Nutcracker, based on the famous history entitled "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice" by the renowned writer E.T.A. Hoffman.

The Nutcracker was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov in 1981, the music was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, a renowned Russian composer. It was first performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on Friday, December 18th, 1892, and it was considered a complete failure. However, George Balanchine, another renowned choreographer, rewrote itin the mid-20th century; from there onwards the Nutcracker became very popular in the entire world.

The work is composed by two acts; the history begins on Christmas Eve at the Stahlbaum house where family and friends have gathered in order to decorate the beautiful Christmas tree in preparation for the night's festivities. Around the Christmas tree, there are a large number of gifts, but one in particular captivates the children and adults alike, this is the wooden Nutcracker doll. Itis the beginning of a history filled with adventures where Clara and Fritz are swept away by her Nutcracker Prince into a magical winter wonderland.

Currently, the Nutcracker is performed by almost all companies in the world. So if you want to enjoy this amazing play, it will not be difficult to find a ballet company performing this play in your city. The Nutcracker has since become an annual Holiday tradition.
