Australian Ballet is the largest ballet company in Australia, famous and recognized as one of the world's major international ballet companies; the Australian Ballet was founded in 1962 by Peggy van Praagh as Artistic Director with J.C Williamson Theatres Ltd, and Elizabeth Theatre Trust, who put all her effort to flourish and achieve international status and design the face of ballet in the country. The first starts in the Australian Ballet where dancers from Borovansky Ballet and its works were based on classical productions.

One of the most famous productions in its early years of creation was Don Quixote, many critics described it as the finest classical ballet film ever produced. In time, the company developed 2 requirements: It has its own school and dancers were under the security of year-round contracts and the best atmosphere so dancers and the directors can enjoy the benefits of well-trained and highly motivated artists.

Nowadays, Australian Ballet Company is one of the busiest companies of ballet in the world and an ambassador of Australia art creation with more than 200 presentations annually in Australia and abroad, with a modern repertoire created by famous choreographers, music artists and technical staff. The Artistic staff is made up of David McAllister as Artistic Director, a graduate of the Australian Ballet School, whose principal roles included Onegin, Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote, the Sleeping Beauty, Manon and more. Danilo Radojevic as the Associated Director, Fiona Tonkin as the Ballet Mistress and Mark Kay as the Ballet Master; Nicolette Fraillon as the Music Director and Stephen Baynes with Stanton Welch as Resident Choreographers.

This kind of art enjoys the support at all levels of society, you may find different local ballet schools across the country; in fact The Australian Ballet School is associated to the Australian Ballet company.

The Australian Ballet School, established no long time after the creation of the company, in order to satisfy the necessity to establish a national school in which they could train dancers that in time will be required by the company, so most dancers in The Australian Ballet are graduates of The Australian Ballet School, including Artistic Director, David McAllister. The School has different programs and includes other kind of dances.
