Mikhail Baryshnikov is one of the most representative ballet dancers in Russia due to his graceful and beautiful dancing style on the stage. This professional ballet dancer was born in Riga, Latvia (former Soviet Union) in 1948 on January 27th. His career as a professional male ballet dancer began at the age of 15 in the Riga State Choreography School.

Few years later, he decided to move to an advanced student group and traveled to Leningrad. Once in Leningrad, he had the strong determination to enter a ballet school there and attend an important audition. Fortunately, he was accepted to form part of the Vagarova School which is one of the finest, prestigious and important ballet institutions in Russia.

Mikhail Baryshnikov met his mentor in this school: Alexander Pushkin. During his schools days his talent was not passed over. On the contrary, teachers and classmates admired his ability, dexterity and agility. Even though he was too short in stature, his talent was more brilliant than his physical drawback.

In fact, some important choreographers were influenced by his techniques and style. In fact, some of his leading roles were the favorite of the Russian public. We are talking about his performances in Vertris 1969) and Gorianka (1968).

In addition, his popularity reached other continents. That is why he was invited to become an honorable member of the American Ballet Teather and the national ballet of Canada.

In 1967 he trained a lot to join the Kirov Ballet's School located in the big city of St. Petersburg. Since then, the artistic career of this magnificent ballet dancer took off until he became of the greatest in the world.
