Learn to dance

Ballet is one of the most beautiful dance forms in the world, and one of the most physically and mentally demanding for a dancer as well. To learn to dance it one must consider certain aspects even before starting with your first lesson.

The first of these aspects is the appropriate gear used in Ballet, which should help the instructor correct your alignment during your training and not get in the way of your movement, so avoid bracelets, large earrings, and necklaces. The hair should be kept out of the face, preferably in a slick ponytail or bun. Watches are allowed as long as they do not get in the way of your performance, so keep them small.

Women and young girls should wear:
  • Pink tights
  • Black leotard
  • Pink slippers should be fit to the dancer's feet
Men on the other hand may use:
  • White t-shirts
  • Black tights
  • Black slippers also fit to the dancer's feet
The other aspect to consider is the gender, age and personal limitations. Make sure you have a clear view of where you want to take your ballet classes and how much dedication you are willing to put in it. While there is no age limit to learn Ballet as an exercise or recreational activity, professional dancers take in the title only by starting at a young age, adolescence at the latest.

While a female teacher can instruct young male dancers at a young stage of Ballet, if they wanted to pursuit a more professional approach to Ballet they will require a professional male Ballet instructor.

A Ballet dancer or danseur should never be dandy or delicate and needs to develop more strength on the extremities as well as different motions during performance due to the different shapes of their bodies.

Remember, the execution of all movements in Ballet must look gracefully, elegant, effortless and tension-free. With a posture in which you feel as if an imaginary line were pulling you up from the base of your feet through your head and to the ceiling.
